Dictation for ADHD

Hold one key and say it: SayWrite turns a spoken ramble into clean text wherever your cursor is, so starting is the easy part.

Compare what you said with what SayWrite writes (Email you've been putting off)
Email you've been putting off

You said: “um okay so hi I know I said I'd send this last week sorry uh anyway the form is attached and like I also need to ask whether the deadline moved because I heard it did”

SayWrite writes: Hi, sorry this is late. The form is attached. I also wanted to ask: has the deadline moved? I heard it might have.

What the microphone heard, word for word.Filler-word removal drops the ums and uhs. Plain dictation, no AI.Fn + Space: rewritten on your Mac with Apple Intelligence or your own local model.

Not medical advice. SayWrite is a writing tool, not a treatment or a medical device. If you have symptoms or a diagnosis, talk to a qualified clinician about what's right for you.

Why voice

Why some people find talking easier than typing

Plenty of people, with or without an ADHD diagnosis, describe the same thing: the idea is clear when they say it out loud and slips away while they type it. Or the email is easy to explain to a friend and impossible to start in a blank window. SayWrite is built to make that first step small: one key, from any app, with no window to open and nothing to set up first.

How it helps

Less friction, fewer steps

  • One key, anywhere. Hold fn in any text field, or tap it once to start and again to stop, so you don't have to keep holding.
  • Ramble, then Polish. Say it out of order, with false starts. Tap space while holding Fn and AI Polish puts the point first and cuts the rest, on your Mac.
  • “Do what I say.” Say “write a short reply saying Thursday works and I'll bring the numbers” and SayWrite writes the reply for you.
  • A safety net. History keeps what you dictated, searchable and on your Mac, so a thought you got down isn't lost when a window closes.
  • Nothing nagging. No account, no notifications, no subscription reminders. Stats and streaks are there if you like them and easy to ignore if you don't.

Accessibility

Comfortable to look at

The app has Studio (dark), Studio Light and High Contrast themes, respects macOS Reduce Motion, and keeps the recording pill small and out of the way. This website respects reduced motion too.

Privacy

Private by default

Brain dumps are personal. Everything SayWrite hears is transcribed on your Mac, and nothing is uploaded, ever. Here's exactly how.

Frequently asked questions

Is SayWrite designed for ADHD?

SayWrite is a general dictation app. Its design, with one key from any app, tap-to-toggle, AI Polish for rambling speech and a searchable History, happens to suit people who find typing a barrier to getting started. It is not a treatment and makes no medical claims.

Do I have to hold the key the whole time?

No. In the default Auto mode, tap Fn once to start and again to stop. Holding works too, and there's also a Control-Option-D shortcut.

What if I say it in the wrong order?

Use AI Polish: tap Space while holding Fn and SayWrite rewrites what you said with the point first, using Apple Intelligence or your own local model on your Mac.

Say it messy. We'll write it neat.

Hold Fn, talk, and let SayWrite type it. Everything stays on your Mac.
